clip_image001I’m happy to announce I’m going to do a session at the Norwegian Developer Conference in Oslo, June 8 – 10.  The session will be an in-depth session on architecting Silverlight solutions with WCF RIA Services and MVVM, and I’m quite excited about it; sessions like this are much more fun to prepare & deliver than high-level sessions, in my opinion..  If you’ve got things you absolutely want to know about these techs/frameworks, don’t hesitate to drop me a line – I’ll try to fit them into the session :)

In case you don’t know NDC, here’s some info straight from their site:

NDC 2010 was an unqualified success, with more than 1,300 participants and a range of Partners from leading IT companies. We are now about to repeat the success by organising NDC2011

Leaders in the field

Again in 2011, participants will be able to learn from the leaders in the field.

The conference promoters are ProgramUtvikling AS. Their vision is to provide developers with the very latest in practical expertise in technology and project performance. Norwegian developers are already well–respected for their abilities, and the aim of the conference is to stimulate the environment in Norway even further, so that Norwegian developers can maintain and enhance their sound position. The way this is being done is by establishing an international conferencing environment in Oslo and focusing on seminars of the highest quality.

Norway’s largest agile program development conference

NDC is Norway’s largest conference dedicated to .NET and Agile development. Along with ProgramUtvikling, Microsoft Norge AS is also supporting the conference and doing its bit to make the event a real boost for developers in the industry.

Access to new technology

Over many years, Microsoft has been focused on giving developers access to the latest technology – as demonstrated at NDC 2008, 2009 and 2010. For 2011, it has been decided that, as before, the conference should feature seven different specialist tracks, each including a series of relevant talks.

Hope to see you there?

[31 Aug 2010 | 0 Comments]

As some of you might know, during the day (well... often evenings as well :)) I work at RealDolmen, one of Belgium's biggest ICT companies.  On Tuesday, September 21st we're organizing our very first SimplICiTy day, a free event about innovation in the Microsoft stack.  We've got three different tracks for those willing to attend (a business track, infrastructure track and development track), an expert bar, free food and drinks for the hungry and thirsty, ...  so if you happen to be in the neighbourhood: drop on by! :)

I will be delivering a session on Rich User Interfaces: a Logical (R)evolution.  If you want to learn about why these new technologies are quickly emerging to be the standard way to develop .NET applications, what you can do with them, what you need to start coding them yourself, ... this is the perfect session for you.

Interested?  Don't forget to register - as said, it's all completely free!

Just a quick reminder: Maarten Balliauw and I will be speaking at Techdays 2010 in Portugal this Thursday (that is, if our flight isn’t cancelled due to the ash cloud).

We’ll be doing one session together: PHP + Silverlight, on how to get those two techs working together.  Maarten will be doing a session on PHP & his Azure SDK for it, Just another Wordpress blog, but more Cloudy , and I will be doing a session called Demystifying MVVM, on the Model-View-ViewModel pattern in Silverlight.

You will be able to find both the Powerpoint & demo code for my session on this blog soon after the sessions!

Feel free to say hi if you see me running around somewhere :-)

In the next few weeks, I’ll be speaking at a few events.

  • Tuesday November 17th: RIA Evening Seminar @ KHM

I’ll be speaking about Rich (Internet) Applications, mainly focussing on Silverlight. In this 90 minute session. I’ll talk about the “why” and “what” of rich applications, and show off a few of the features that make Silverlight stand out.

Location: Katholieke Hogeschool Mechelen (website)

  • Wednesday November 25th: Microsoft User Experince @ Vitra

For the second time, Microsoft is organizing this event together with Vitra & partners.  This event is aimed at developers & decision makers, and consists of in depth sessions on Sharepoint, Silverlight, WPF and Sketchflow in the afternoon (@ MS Corporate Village, Zaventem), and short introduction sessions in the evening (@ Vitra showroom, Diegem).  I’ll be presenting the Silverlight session: this is a 45 minute session, repeated throughout the afternoon.  In this session, I’ll talk about Silverlight 3 & its new features.

Don’t hesitate to say hello if you see me! :)

Last Thursday, I presented a BESUG session on RIA Services.

Code & slides are online now, feel free to download them and have a look.  Most of RIA Services is covered, including but not limited to CRUD, Validation, extending generated code, Authentication and Authorization.  The Silverlight solution itself is built using a (pragmatic ;-)) MVVM approach.

Quick "plug" ;-)

In the upcoming weeks, Maarten Balliauw (one of my collegues, an expert in ASP .NET MVC & PHP) and I will be giving a few sessions together in The Netherlands: on Friday the 29th of May, we'll be speaking @ Microsoft's DevDays in Den Haag, and on Friday the 12th, we'll be speaking @ the Dutch PHP Conference in Amsterdam.  The session we're delivering is called "PHP & Silverlight".

What can you expect?  Well, we'll have a look at how to integrate PHP & Silverlight, and at the SL programming model in general.  I'm delivering the Silverlight-part, my collegue Maarten is delivering the PHP-part of the session.  It's not an in-depth level 400 session, but it's meant to give you an idea of how you can use PHP & Silverlight together (creating a SL-project in Eclipse, hosting SL on a PHP-page, using a PHP-webservice from SL), and at the same time give an intro on what Silverlight can do, focussing on the - in my opinion - 4 keywords everyone should know & understand when developing Silverlight: DataContext, DataBinding, INotifyPropertyChanged and IValueConverter.

So, if you happen to be in the neighbourhood, come check us out and/or join us at the bar for a drink after the session! ;-)

PS, if you're coming to the Amsterdam session, make sure you take a few extra days to stroll around the city - it's not Barcelona, but it's a really nice and relaxing city with a few great places to visit; one of my favourite cities in Europe, actually.
